Leaking slushy machine

Slushy machines have rubber seals to keep the slushy liquid inside of the tanks. To prevent a leaking slushy machine it is vital to keep these rubber seals in good condition.

Guide applies to non-carbonated slushie machines

Seal types

Faucet seals

There will be a seal or seals on the faucet, these need to be kept clean and lubricated to prevent them from drying out. If the seal doesn’t have enough lubrication, the friction created by opening and closing the faucet causes the rubber to wear down and consequently start leaking.

Every slushy outlet is different, basically the more you sell, the more regularly you need to lubricate the seals. We suggest once a week for busy outlets to every two weeks for less busy ones. They will still eventually wear and need to be replaced, prevention being better than cure, it’s better to do this before they fail. For this reason we highly recommend 6 monthly replacements for busy outlets and 12 monthly for less busy outlets.

Drive shaft seals

Most but not all slushy machines have a drive shaft inside the stainless steel barrel inside of the bowl, where the slushy freezes to and gets scraped off buy the spiral.

The drive shaft is constantly turning and of course the seal on this part which prevents liquid from running through into the machine, wears down over time. The drive shaft seals must be kept clean and lubricated and replaced 6 monthly. Keeping the drive shaft seal in good condition is vital. If liquid does run through and into the machine, further damage can be caused to some of the internal parts.

Bowl seals

There is a seal at the back of the bowl where it pushes up against the body of the machine. This is less prone to wear and tear, but they do become stretched over time buy the removal and refitting of the bowls. Lubricate these seals to enable easy fitting and removal of the bowls and to ensure a good seal. We recommend replacing these every 12 months.

Lubricant

We recommend Haynes Lubri-Film Plus, you can get this direct from the manufacturer or for smaller amounts you can find this on Amazon.
